Yahia Omar named EHF Champions League Player of the Week

Egyptian international handball player Yahia Omar won the EHF Champions League Player of the Week award for his performance in the first round.
In July 2019, Yahia joined the Hungarian Veszprém KC from the African and Egyptian power Zamalek.
Since then he has been a key player on the team, delivering great shows with his club at both national and continental levels.
Yahia couldn’t have dreamed of a better start to the 2021/2022 season, as after leading Egypt to the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics, he won the South East Handball Association League with Veszprém KC after beating PPD Zagreb.

Their EHF Champions League opener was no different against French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
The Hungarian team led by four goals at the start and the game seemed to be going in one direction. However, Yahia Omar managed to help his side complete the comeback by scoring 10 goals and helping six to get the two points and win 34-31.

This performance earned him the EHF Champions League Player of the Week award for Matchday 1. The 24-year-old is now the tournament’s second-highest scorer with 10 goals, behind Niclas Ekberg of THW Kiel and Raul Nantes of Dinamo Bucharesti (11).
The Veszprém KC was drawn in Group B with Ali Zein’s Barcelona (Spain), Dinamo Bucharesti (Romania), HC Motor Zaporizhzhia (Ukraine), PSG (France), KS Vive Kielce (Poland ), FC Porto (Portugal) and SG Flensburg-Handewitt (Germany).
