We go to Egypt to win the Champions League trophy – Yussif Basigi
The Hasaacas Ladies aim to win the first edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, according to head coach Yussif Basigi.
Basigi’s daughters were crowned champions of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifying tournament after beating River Angles 3-1 in the final earlier this month.
Their success in the tournament allowed them to automatically participate in the first competition which will take place in Egypt later this year.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Basigi said his team would not relax their efforts to win the trophy in Egypt.
“WAFU is gone and now we are watching the championship, which of course other clubs are going to win too.
“We are also aiming for the trophy in Egypt, not because we won Zone B WAFU, but because we will be seen as a team capable of winning and that is a motivation for the girls,” he added. .
Despite his team’s success, Basigi warned that they will have to raise their level to meet the demands.
At the moment, they [opponents] admire Hasaacas Ladies and not Rivers Angels, ”says Basigi.
“We won [the final] convincingly and people imagine which team is Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies who beat Nigeria 3-1?
“So we will be targets and for that matter, we also have to take our game and all of ours to another level.
“Now is not the time to relax and feel like we are champions; that one is over, WAFU is over and now we are going to the main championship and we also want to set another record because we are setting the pace and it is not over yet, ”he concluded.
Hasaacas Ladies won the Ghana Women’s Premier League, the FA Cup and topped it off with the WAFU Zone B Champions League success to complete a hat-trick in the football season just ended.
