Virgil van Dijk has already warned Real Madrid as shock transfer rumor to Liverpool emerges
It is a crucial time for Joe Gomez and his career at Liverpool.
The 24-year-old has managed just 12 minutes in the Premier League so far this season and has made just nine appearances in all competitions.
Injury issues have played their part, but Ibrahima Konate’s arrival this summer and Joel Matip’s consistency only pushed him down the pecking order at Anfield.
The defender’s future at Liverpool has been called into question in recent weeks with links to Aston Villa.
He would now be a target for La Liga giants Real Madrid.

According to the Daily Mail, Carlo Ancelotti is looking for defensive reinforcements this summer and the 24-year-old is a potential option for the Spanish club.
Gomez can certainly be excused for considering his options, with a World Cup on the horizon he has to play regularly to win over Gareth Southgate’s plans.
However, the coming winter period will likely see the England international’s playing time increase with matches taking place every alternate day.
Virgil van Dijk is currently sidelined with Covid and has missed the last two matches against Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Jurgen Klopp, however, has turned to newcomer Konate to step up in the Dutchman’s absence and the young defender is already proving why Liverpool spent £ 36million to pull him away from RB Leipzig.
Last season Liverpool struggled to field a cohesive partnership and often had to force midfielders further, the Reds boss is spoiled for choice this quarter, however, with Nat Phillips also battling for minutes.
Phillips is set to move on to the summer, if not January, which only puts more emphasis on Gomez’s role at Liverpool.
Although minutes are not guaranteed at this time, Gomez will have a huge role to play at Anfield in the years to come.
“It obviously wasn’t the best year for him, but that’s how it’s been,” Klopp told the media ahead of the Newcastle game.
“We’re patient, and Joe is patient. I don’t plan on loaning someone in the winter.”
Van Dijk has already admitted that Konate and Gomez are his long-term successors.

Virtually speaking to a supporter during Liverpool’s annual visit to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, the 30-year-old sat next to the couple and admitted: “These two will eventually take my place. “
The duo may not be the first choice at the moment, with Van Dijk and Matip firmly Klopp’s favorite couple – but, aged just 22 and 24, they represent the future of Liverpool’s defense.
Arguably the only thing that held Gomez back during his time at Liverpool was the injuries. He formed a formidable partnership with Van Dijk in the club’s victorious season before missing 10 months of action the following campaign.
It’s no surprise that there are rumors of interest in Gomez from Villa and Real Madrid, he has kept 31 clean sheets in 82 league games since joining in 2015.
But it is not in excess of needs.
He is a vital figure for the future of this team and he will be determined to find his way into Klopp’s immediate plans.
