UK Covid Live: Country at ‘Perilous Time’ Says Former Chief Science Advisor | Politics

There was jubilation in Glasgow as the city was finally placed at Scotland’s Covid Controls Level 2 from midnight on Friday, with locals able to kiss and meet at home for the first time in eight month. But 13 other local authority areas are to remain at level 2, said Nicola Sturgeon, rather than the additional level 1 relaxation that was expected.
Nicola Sturgeon insisted that today’s decisions did not roll back the fields, while saying that “a slight slowdown in the easing of restrictions, to allow time for more people to being fully immunized will help protect our overall progress â.
Sturgeon said:
As a person living in Glasgow, I know this will make a huge difference in the quality of life.
This means that the people of Glasgow – as has been the case in most of the rest of Scotland since mid-May – will be able to meet at home in groups of no more than 6 people, from a maximum of 3. households. It also means that authorized domestic hospitality can reopen and people can travel between Glasgow and other parts of Scotland again.
Besides Glasgow, the following areas will remain at level 2: Edinburgh and Midlothian, Dundee, East Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, the 3 Ayrshires, North and South Lanarkshire and Clackmannanshire and Stirling.
The following areas will be upgraded to level 1 from midnight Saturday: Highland, Argyll & Bute, Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus, Perth & Kinross, Falkirk, Fife, Inverclyde, East and West Lothian, West Dunbartonshire, Dumfries & Galloway and borders, which means that the meeting limits in indoor public places are increased to 8 people from 3 households; and outside for 12 people from 12 households; 100 people compared to 50 can attend weddings and funerals; and play centers and fairgrounds can reopen.
