Among them, striker Raul Ruidiaz and defender Xavier Arreaga have both been out due to hamstring injuries. Veteran winger Jordan Morris did not travel with the team after scoring in the Sounders’ last two games.
Stefan Cleveland made six saves for Seattle (8-7-2, 26 points), which moved up to fourth in the Western Conference standings with the win. The three-time MLS Cup winners were just 13th in the West after a 2-0 loss to Dallas on May 7.
Alejandro Pozuelo was the closest to scoring for Toronto (5-10-3, 18 points), which lost consecutive home games for the second time this season.
The hosts were also in their third game in eight days, but had played all three at near full strength and in their home stadium. They remain 12th in the East, with Italian star striker Lorenzo Insigne due to make his debut next week.
Quentin Westberg made two saves for the home side, who have now allowed one goal in 26 consecutive appearances since last season.
He couldn’t do much about Seattle’s two goals.
Simply soaking up the pressure and launching counterattacks, the Sounders used one of those counters to open the scoring.
On a play that started with Cleveland’s clearance, Leo Chu ran in a one-touch pass down the left, beat defender Carlos Salcedo into the left corner, then played a low cross to the near post.
Teves, 22, met him and sent an early low pass past Westberg from the edge of the 6-yard penalty area.
Montero hit the crossbar seven minutes after halftime, then Cleveland made a great one-on-one save with his left leg against Pozuelo.
Shortly after, the Sounders knocked him out of reach on another complex streak. Montero finished it off with a good back and forth with Nico Lodeiro before converting another goal from close range.
