Spain vs Sweden: preamble to Euro 2020
Hello! Well it’s awfully nice to focus on soccer after a preparation for Euro 2020 which, for the two teams tonight in Seville, was dominated by the coronavirus.
Spain is without captain Sergio Busquets (for now at least) after contracting covid-19 just over a week ago, while defender Diego Llorente joined the camp after first testing positive and then negative. Having placed the rest of the team in isolation, Spain couldn’t even make their last Euro 2020 warm-up against Lithuania last week. Their Under-21s were deputized and also did a great job, winning 4-0.
Meanwhile, Sweden has also been affected by covid-19. Mattias Svanberg and Dejan Kulusevksi both returned positive tests last week, and although they have now returned to Janne Andersson’s team after testing negative, neither will be involved tonight.
Sweden enter the tournament in very decent form indeed, having won each of their last five games and kept four clean sheets in the process. however, they face a Spanish team who got the better of them by qualifying for Euro 2020, winning 3-0 in Madrid before drawing in Stockholm.
The Swedes will also face a crowd of 16,000 shooting mainly for the home side at the Estadio de la Cartuja – a land where Spain has experienced positive fortunes. Ahead of a 3-1 victory over Kosovo at the stadium last March, they beat Germany 6-0 there in November.
