Six things learned ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup final as Liverpool get Fabinho injury boost
Jürgen Klopp spoke to the media on Friday afternoon ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, with the Reds boss confirming good news on Fabinho.
These are the six things Liverpool.com learned from the open section of the press conference as Klopp was asked about injuries, Chelsea, the Champions League and more.
Klopp on Fabinho…
“He will definitely be back for the Champions League final. Before that, we’ll see.”

A huge boost for Liverpool, that’s for sure. Whether the Reds see him before Real Madrid or not (and he certainly won’t be returning for Chelsea or Southampton), this could be big news ahead of the trip to Paris.
“We didn’t ‘beat’ Chelsea. We won the shootout. I’ve said many times with no luck that you don’t have a chance and luck was on our side that day. We know how much Chelsea is good. Both teams will go for it”. We are really looking forward to this opportunity. It’s a massive final for us and we’re really happy to be a part of it. We despair of winning it but the adversary is the same. Since Liverpool won it in 2006, Chelsea have won it three or four times. We could perhaps say that they have earned enough! They are very organized defensively and offensively, an incredible talent. It’s unclear how Thomas Tuchel will line up because they have so many options: Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, and completely different Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount.”
Chelsea will clearly be a tough team to play against, but Liverpool are the pre-game favourites. If they play their own game, they should be able to win. Liverpool have already drawn three times with Chelsea this season, but have the advantage of winning the Carabao Cup against the same team at the same stadium.
On the FA Cup…
“To be honest, I didn’t dream that big. Why should I think these things can happen in the future? It’s the biggest domestic cup in the world, but it’s not like I had watched 20 FA Cup finals. But I don’t. need to know how big it is. It’s a special group we have at the moment. You don’t have a guarantee. There’s no only one chance to find out who will win the cup, playing it. We will really try it and the opponent will do the same. I’m sure a lot of people around the world will watch this game and a lot of them are Liverpool fans, so let’s enjoy it. It’s special and we want to use that.”
It is clear that through the team and the management, the players know how important this game is. The Champions League final is fast approaching, but it would also be a big moment for them. The dynamic is huge.
On Liverpool fans…
“I’m really happy that people can be part of this journey. They are the main reason for this journey. Now it’s getting really exciting. It’s the first big final in the last two weeks of the season. In a season like That, offering consistency since January is crazy. Now here we go.
Liverpool supporters are having a blast. Two cup finals in two weeks? Yes please.
In the middle of the field…
“We’ll see. We could play 90 or 120, it won’t change the kick-off for Southampton. Depending on the Man City result, we opt for something or not and then we make decisions. We have enough options , the job is to find the right one.”
Liverpool will need their squad, but they have for a while. Southampton could still be important, but the two cup finals must be the priority.
On the changes in the Champions League…
“When I’m not in a good mood when I talk about UEFA, it’s the Nations League. I always think that’s the most ridiculous idea. I would prefer UEFA to take more money from the Champions League final and expels the Nations League. No more tickets for the people. My personal opinion.
More games is never a good thing, and Klopp pretty much said that in a few more words. He was never in favor of more matches, so even with the compromises in place, that idea wasn’t going to sit well.
