Ryan Reynolds sends message to ex-Everton and Liverpool striker after shock transfer
Hollywood celebrity and current Wrexham AFC part-owner Ryan Reynolds has sent a message to former Everton and Liverpool prospect Paul Mullin, who signed for the Welsh side on Friday afternoon.
Mullin became a household name in the lower divisions of the English Football League last season as he won the League 2 top scorer title after scoring 32 goals for Cambridge United.
And after garnering interest from a number of established Football League clubs, the 26-year-old decided to head to the National League as he signed a contract with Wrexham.
After signing a deal with the National League, Mullin received a message from his new owners via social media.
It has been anything but a straightforward journey for the Litherland-born forward, having been to both Everton and Liverpool academies as well as a stint in Spain.
Speaking to ECHO in an exclusive interview last November, Mullin spoke about the struggles of his career to date.
“I left Liverpool and went to Racing Santander, which was in La Liga at the time.”
“I went to a trial in March,” says Mullin. “They wanted me to go back and sign and by the time I got there they were in administration. It was back home to the drawing board.
“It was difficult, but it was only one of those things.”
Having worked its way back into the professional game after a stint in the England non-league system, the move to an ambitious National League side is the next chapter in a heartwarming story.
Wrexham has shown he is serious in the upcoming National League season, having missed the play-offs on the last day of last season’s campaign.
Following the £ 2million investment from Hollywood stars Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the proposal to get involved with the Wrexham project over the next few years would be enough to tempt any Football League star.
