Ratings for each featured player so far in 2021
The Texas A&M football season got off to a bumpy start. 3-2 was never part of the plan, especially when the toughest team on the calendar was Arkansas.
Yet despite the Aggies’ shortcomings, there are more than a handful of players who have played really solid seasons. Today, I’m going to stop dwelling on the negatives of the season and move towards the positives.
Here are the ratings for every star player on the Texas A&M football team so far in 2021.
Texas A&M football player ranks across five games: offense
QB Zach Calzada: I am currently the anti-Calzada slander. The quarterback lost his starting job and was put in the spotlight weeks later with a shattered offensive line. Yes, he underperformed, but it’s hard to blame him too much.
If we knew its nickname, the “Cuban missile” would get an A +. Unfortunately, his playing on the pitch doesn’t quite fit that moniker. Calzada threw an ineffective 53.9% clip, throwing five assists into the end zone and throwing four steals. Again, it wasn’t bad, it was just ineffective.
Player level: C-
RB Isaiah Spiller: Isaiah Spiller was one of the best returning runningbacks in 2021. Expectations were sky-high for the All-SEC first-team runningback from a season ago, and so far he has not responded to those. expectations. Again, he hasn’t necessarily been bad, he just didn’t have the block to match his talent.
In terms of play, it was even better than expected. Having said that, football is a numbers game and the numbers are just right. He ran for 445 yards, having made just two trips to the rushing end zone this season.
Player Rating: B +
