Ranking of the 2021 Sooners calendar by importance
Looking at the Oklahoma Sooners football schedule for the upcoming season, there are some games that are considered much more important than others. For example, the second game on the program is against the opponent FCS Western Carolina. No disrespect for the program, but the Sooners have a lot more fish to fry in their hopeful college football playoff run.
Rivalry games such as Bedlam and Red River Rivalry will be much higher on the Sooners roster.
Longhorns Wire ranked their most important game of the season and, of course, it was the Red River Rivalry.
Most important game of the season, and yes Oklahoma is Texas’ biggest rival, but that’s not the only reason. The Sooners have had a stronghold on the Big 12 by winning the last six conference championships. Texas had opportunities to win in the four-overtime game, and those chances just weren’t capitalized.
Oklahoma received a lot of reinforcements through the transfer portal and Spencer Rattler greatly improved after that game after being put on the bench at one point in favor of Tanner Mordecai. This confrontation will give an impetus to the road traveled by Texas under Sarkisian, or will accentuate the room for growth still needed.
While our colleagues consider the Red River Rivalry the most important game on their schedule in 2021, for the Oklahoma Sooners, another game is on the ring.
