Rangers brace for another boon from Champions League fans
We are delighted to welcome a football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as an exclusive columnist. Each week, he will give his views on the top Rangers talking points...
Dan Plumley has insisted Rangers struck while the iron was hot to gift fans Champions League badges on their match shirts.
The financial expert admitted fans will be desperate to add them, and the £9.95 per print cost will give the Bears another big new bargain out of nowhere.
Rangers will be back in the Champions League for the first time in years after beating PSV Eindhoven and Union Saint-Gilloise in the play-offs last month.
“Absolutely, we have already said it, it is an additional cost for the fans” he exclusively said News from Ibrox.
“They know the fans are up for it and a lot of them will, any little extra you can get from that is important.
“It’s another example of Rangers being commercially on the ball and hitting while the iron is hot because there’s a lot of buzz around them being back in this competition and for a lot of the fans to have that badge extra on the arm will mean a lot emotionally.
“So you’ll get close to £10 for each one, you won’t generate millions, but it’s a smart game to do that.”
Of course, everyone will have hoped that they were available for free, but that does not change anything for the faithful of Ibrox.
The club will no doubt see a significant increase in the number of fans getting Champions League badges on their shirts, as well as having players’ names printed in the build-up to some huge matches.
With Liverpool, Napoli and Ajax coming to town, compared to teams like Brondby last season in the Europa League, Ibrox are going to be crazier than ever.
Hitting while the iron is hot makes perfect sense.
