Relegated from the Premier League in 2019-2020, Norwich City and Watford secured their return to the top flight at the earliest opportunity by claiming the two championship automatic promotion spots.
Norwich won the division after losing just seven of their 46 games, while Watford took second thanks to the meanest defense (30 goals conceded).
Brentford, who beat AFC Bournemouth and then Swansea City in play-offs, joins them in reaching the top of English football for the first time since 1946-1947.
The Reds ‘season opener with Brentford will be the teams’ first clash in any competition since Liverpool won an FA Cup quarter-final at Anfield in March 1989.
Norwich, Watford and Brentford replace Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United in the top flight.
Opening day form
Liverpool are undefeated in their last eight opening games since a 3-0 reversal at West Brom on Matchday 1 of 2012-13.
Seven of them have been wins for the Reds, each of the last three: 4-3 against Leeds United last season, 4-1 against Norwich the year before and 4-0 against West Ham United in 2018-19 .
Jürgen Klopp has recorded four wins and one draw in his first five appearances of a Premier League campaign so far, with his side scoring at least three goals each time.
At home or away?
The Law of Averages suggests the match computer could send Liverpool on the road to start their 2021-22 league schedule.
The Reds have started each of the last three seasons at Anfield, having started the previous three campaigns away.
Liverpool are 19 wins from the 600 mark in the Premier League era and need 73 goals to reach the 2000 mark.
Jordan Henderson is 10 appearances out of 300 in the Reds top flight and Mohamed Salah needs five Premier League goals to reach a century since joining the club.
Nine more matches will see James Milner overtake David James in fourth place on the list of all-time Premier League appearances.
