Parents of Liverpool FC star tell him Cefn Mawr ‘bursts with pride’ in warm letter as Wales enter Euro 2020

Liverpool FC and Wales star Neco Williams has his entire community behind him as he prepares to represent Wales in the delayed Euro 2020 Championship, according to a moving letter from his parents.
The 20-year-old from north Wales, who plays as Liverpool full-back Jurgen Klopp as well as his national team, has never lost touch with his roots, his mother and father say.
They can’t believe their boy’s face is all over the place as Wales prepare to start their Euro 2020 campaign against Switzerland in Baku, with Rob Page’s side hoping to match the Welsh side’s surprise success at Euro 2016.
Williams is expected to play an important role in Page’s squad in what will be his first-ever international tournament, reports Wales Online.
Neco’s parents, Emma and Lee, wrote a touching letter to The Athletic that clearly shows how much this means to them and his home community of Cefn Mawr.

“Cefn Mawr is overflowing with pride”
“Dear Neco,” he begins.
“Well, what can we say other than that we, your mother and your father, are so proud of you?”
“Your big sister Taya, your little brother Keelan and your two younger sisters Sarae and Ocea too.
âThe whole family is buzzing, as is absolutely everyone here in Cefn Mawr, your hometown in North Wales.
“Everyone who knows you is full of pride.
âAs parents we have to pinch ourselves to know that you are part of the Wales squad playing at the European Championship.
“It’s really surreal to see you live out your dream of being a professional footballer.”
‘Oh my God, he’s our little boy’
In a touching message before the start of the tournament, Emma and Lee make it clear that Neco is crazy about football and always stays in touch with his friends since childhood.
The letter adds: “Your face is everywhere and when we see you on TV, in the newspapers or online, we just think, ‘Oh my God, that’s our little boy’.”
Mum Emma says her stint on the local women’s team must have played a part in her football education.
But it was Neco’s grandfather who really gave him the love of the game, they write.
Neco’s parents write about their son’s roller coaster trip.
Joining Liverpool’s academy in his debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in 2018, before winning a Premier League and Club World Cup winner’s medal.
âOur boy from Cefn was a world champion,â the letter continues.

‘You like coming back to Cefn’
The letter speaks in more detail about Neco’s love for his roots in North Wales.
He said, “And where was the first place you went when you got home?” [after the Club World Cup success]
âThat’s right, you went straight to the Legion, to see all your comrades.
âThen you stopped by Nan and Grandpa’s house before you finally came home.
âYou have never lost touch with your roots or your community.
“It’s something we love about you, Neco.
“You love coming back to Cefn and you will do it as often as possible.”
Welsh pride and daddy’s ‘crazy’ goal celebrations
Williams made his Wales debut in the Nations League against Finland last September.
He even scored for his national team, against Bulgaria a few days later – a goal that drove his father crazy for celebrations.
âIt was one of the proudest days for us as a family,â the letter continues.
“So imagine what it felt like to see you score the game-winning goal against Bulgaria after coming off the bench.
“It was great.
âDad was watching the game in the other room, as you know he likes to concentrate.
âThe rest of us were sitting together.
“We heard daddy screaming and screaming.
“He was going crazy and since there was a five second delay on our TV, we all thought, ‘Well, someone must have scored.'”

How the Williams will look at Wales vs Switzerland
So how will his family and friends in North Wales support Neco today (June 12) as Wales take on Switzerland?
The letter explained, âOn Saturday we’ll all go down to the Legion and wear Wales tops with your name and number on the back.
âTo think, in 2016 when Wales came to the Euro semi-final you were only 15 and you were watching it here with us.
âNow you’re going to be there and be a part of it.
“So take advantage of every second, Neco, because you are living your dream and we couldn’t be happier.”
The Wales vs Switzerland Group A Euro 2020 match starts at 2 p.m. today (12 June).
