Werner, who joined Chelsea for around £ 50million, has so far found life in England difficult.
This is according to the football manager of the German point of sale BILD, Falk, who said the Geordies are keen to sign the German striker.

The 25-year-old shares an agent with Toon defender Fabian Schar who Falk says is in constant communication with the club.
Werner has scored six disappointing goals in 35 Premier League appearances in his first England campaign, however helping a good 12 goals.
Despite his difficulties, he helped the Blues win the Champions League after having beat Manchester City 1-0 in the final in Porto.
He played 66 minutes in the final as his compatriot Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game.
Last season he made 52 appearances in all competitions but fell down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the summer signing of Romelu Lukaku.
That said, Werner played the full 90 minutes in Chelseaof the last two league matches, there is therefore a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the German.
As for Newcastle, their current options up front are Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Joelinton.
Saint-Maximin has been their best player so far this term – with the club currently 19th in the Premier League – while Wilson have notable injury issues.
This hasn’t happened for Joelinton since his £ 40million transfer from Hoffenheim in 2019, so bringing in another striker should be a priority for the Magpies.
Wilson has been sidelined since late August but could be in contention to face Tottenham on Sunday.
A club statement read: “Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles are set to step up their respective injury returns.”
