Morocco will host the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League
The continent’s biggest women’s showpiece will be staged in the North African nation
Morocco will be the host country of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League, the Confederation of African Football has announced.
Football’s governing body has twice opened the hosting rights to the second edition of the continental women’s club competition.
However, only the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has shown interest. And hence, the North African country will host the rest of the continent later this year.
“Caf had twice opened the TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League 2022 bidding process, and only the Royal Moroccan Football Federation submitted a bid,” said one. statement read.
“The Executive Committee has therefore decided to award the competition to Morocco as the sole bidder.”
Egypt hosted the inaugural edition in 2021 with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns beating Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies 2-0 in the final played at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo.
The date for this year’s competition has yet to be announced, however, eight teams are expected to compete for the top prize.
In the same vein, the Caf took stock of the 2022 African Nations Championship billed for Algeria.
It has been decided that the opening match will start on January 13, 2023, while the final will take place on February 4.
“The Executive Committee took note of the report of the inspection delegation team led by Vice President Seido Mbombo Njoya and Executive Member Moses Magogo on Algeria’s state of preparedness,” he said. he continued.
“The Executive Committee has confirmed that the opening match of TotalEnergies CHAN is from January 13 to February 04, 2023.”
Morocco are the defending champions of the tournament after shutting down Mali 2-0 in the final of the 2020 edition played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé.
Elsewhere, Egypt has secured the right to host the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
“CAF has received two bids from Egypt and Morocco for the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations,” he added.
“The Executive Committee has decided to grant Egypt the right to host the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.”
