Manchester United 0-5 Liverpool: the reaction of Jürgen Klopp

Jürgen Klopp has reveled in a result that will go down in Liverpool’s history books after his side recorded a 5-0 victory at Manchester United.

Highlights: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

Goals in the opening 13 minutes from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota saw the Reds claim an incredible away victory, with Mohamed Salah becoming the first visiting player to score a Premier League hat-trick at Old Trafford.

Salah has now scored 10 straight games for Klopp’s side, who have scored 13 times while winning at Watford, Atletico Madrid and United in a remarkable eight-day span.

Read on for a recap of the boss’s post-game press conference …

Whether the result represents one of the best days of his career …

The best days? I haven’t thought about it yet. It’s a good day, a very good day and I don’t want to be disrespectful. I have no idea, but it’s a big deal. We know that. Obviously after the game I was told that had never happened in LFC’s long history; this group has always wanted to write their own little chapters for the big, big history book of this club. This was a little tonight, a little chapter. People will talk about it in the future, 100%, because it won’t happen very often, if it happens again. We also saw the game and we know we were lucky in a couple of situations where United could have scored in the first half. I think they should have scored first, but that doesn’t make our performance [any less], it’s like that.

In front of the goal, in the last third, we were exceptional. We were clinical, we were ruthless, our high press was exceptional, we really won some balls in great areas, the training was top notch and all of those things that you want to see as a coach have worked out really well. The difference now is that you usually don’t score in every situation you come across, but that’s what we did and why we were leading 4-0 at halftime. Second half, 5-0 start and red card, game over, so control it and try to come home healthy. I’m not 100% sure it worked, well it obviously didn’t work because Millie is injured and so is Naby. You have to see how serious it is, it is very painful, so we will see. We won’t know until tomorrow or the day after.

On the performance of Keita before being stretched following a tackle two feet from Paul Pogba …

Naby is having a great time. Naby is an exceptional player and we talked about that, of the game at Atletico: he played remarkably well until he made the mistake around the Atletico goal after the set piece and that l ‘obviously broke a bit, and it shouldn’t happen. obviously, it is clear. But in such an atmosphere, against such an opponent, all of a sudden, when you think about different things, it can happen. But it was clear that we would be relaunching him because he is in very good shape and yes, he proved us right.

On the screen of Roberto Firmino, with the spotlight again on Salah after his hat-trick …

He played, once again, remarkably well. You’re right, Mo gets a lot of attention and rightly so, but Bobby, for people who know football – I’m pretty sure once he’s done playing people will write books about how he interpreted the position of the false nine. I’m not saying he made it up or that we made it up, but with the way he plays it, every now and then it looks like [that]! There are different things to do on the pitch – some of it is defensive, and what he did in that department tonight was absolutely crazy, and offensively he’s obviously a good liaison player and he finishes. from time to time too. So yeah, Bobby knows how much we appreciate what he does and maybe that’s a little more important.
