Here’s your Liverpool morning digest for Tuesday, September 21.

Manchester duo set to finish above Liverpool

While Jurgen Klopp’s side at Liverpool have been one of the Premier League’s most impressive teams this season – they lead the table with Chelsea after five games – a statistical model predicted they would not succeed to win the title.

This model was formulated through research from the CIES Football Observatory, which says Liverpool will finish third.

If their prediction were to come true, the Reds would be ahead of Chelsea but behind Manchester City – who are expected to retain their Premier League crown – and Manchester United.

The predicted top four are in exactly the same order the teams finished last season, as Liverpool recovered from a mid-term swing to secure Champions League football.

The CIES model is based on a variety of factors, including experience, transfer fees, and performance over the past year.

Thiago doubts vital Liverpool games

The stuttering theme of Thiago Alcantara’s career at Liverpool looks set to continue, after it was confirmed that the calf injury from the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace will keep him sidelined for about two games.

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders took over media duties on Monday on the eve of the team’s League Cup clash with Norwich City.

He was asked how long the playmaker should stay on the sidelines, after pulling out of the clash with the Eagles.

“Thiago, how the gaffer said after the game, it was a calf injury,” he said. “I can’t say now how long it will take, but certainly not tomorrow and not this weekend.”

Lijnders has confirmed that Liverpool have yet to receive the full results of Thiago’s analysis, so the extent of the problem is not known.

After their trip to Carrow Road on Tuesday, the Reds face newly promoted Brentford on Saturday night. They then travel to Porto in the Champions League ahead of a crucial clash with Manchester City at Anfield on October 3.
