Liverpool scouts could keep tabs on these exceptional talents at Euro 2020

With the 2020/21 national season now over, attention has turned to this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament which kicks off next weekend.
The massive competition will see 24 different European nations involved, an increase of eight countries from previous editions, meaning there will be more talent than ever on display throughout the month-long event.
Liverpool, like many other Premier League clubs, will undoubtedly use the tournament to take a closer look at potential targets in the elite competition.
The event can also serve as a springboard for one or two future prospects to showcase themselves for the big clubs.
With that in mind, below you will find three young players who will be competing at this summer’s European Championships and who have the potential to catch the attention of Jurgen Klopp and his recruiting team.
Illia Zabarnyi – Ukraine – 20
Liverpool have already signed an impressive young defender in the form of Ibrahima Konate, but there is a chance that more reinforcements will follow.
Zabarnyi may only be 20 years old, but he already has six international caps under his belt for Ukraine and could be “one to watch” at this summer’s tournament.
He has been a regular at Dynamo Kyiv’s bottom line this season and has garnered widespread applause for a number of notable displays both domestically and in Europe.
He possesses some sought-after traits in a Liverpool defender, these being tall, measuring 6ft 1in, strong but also able to keep pace with most opposing forwards in a running race.
The 20-year-old finished last season with an impressive 67% defensive duel success rate. This would have been the highest for Liverpool this season compared to the Reds center-backs who have played over 800 league minutes.
Not only strong without the ball, but he also came out as a real asset with him, posting a passing success rate of over 92% last season, up from 57.7 assists for 90.
These numbers have of course been accumulated mostly in a much lower division compared to the Premier League, but if Zabarnyi can impress on the international stage at the age of 20 in the weeks to come, then there is plenty of evidence to suggest that he is a talented player with a very high ceiling.
Teun Koopmeiners – Netherlands – 23
Liverpool recently lost an influential Dutch midfielder so they might be tempted to replace him with another.
Koopmeiners isn’t quite a carbon copy of Gini Wijnaldum, but he’s a very talented player nonetheless. He appears mainly as a left CM / DM for the Netherlands and the Dutch team AZ Alkmaar.

He has strong technical ability when in possession, always calm and capable of a wide range of nice progressive touches that help him escape pressure and allow him to quickly identify passing options nearby.
Without the ball, the midfielder can make an opponent difficult to get around. In terms of defensive duels, he has a 65.6% success rate last season – which ranks among the top 15 midfielders who have played more than 1,000 minutes of Eredivisie.
The 23-year-old’s defensive side of skill is helped by both his decent 6-foot frame and a good read of the game around him.
Moreover, although he played a bigger role on the pitch, he scored an impressive 16 goals in the league and in Europe last season, as well as six more assists.
Granted, a large portion of those goal contributions come from set pieces or penalties, but its effectiveness is certainly an added bonus.
Jérémy Doku – Belgium – 19
There were signs that the task of replacing Liverpool’s top three scintillators began last year when the club brought in Diogo Jota from Wolves.
That process is expected to continue this summer, and we’ve already seen the Reds linked with a number of top attacking talent in recent weeks.

Still, one player going under the radar who could and perhaps should get more Liverpool’s attention is the exciting teenager Doku.
The Belgian forward has previously said he has the option of joining the Reds while still at Anderlecht, but he chose to stay with the Belgian squad, saying that a move to such a big club was ” too early “.
At a glance this might seem like a snub at Anfield by the teenager, but in reality it was a smart move as he instead pursued development and regular first-team football before taking such a step.
Since then he has joined Rennes in Ligue 1 and has gradually built a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in the division. His selection in Roberto Martinez’s Euro team is in itself a testament to his abilities, especially given the wealth of talents Belgium has at its disposal.

His style of play bears similarities to Sadio Mane’s in that he is a versatile wide right-footed forward who is quick, skillful and an ever-present threat in the final third.
Notably, among Ligue 1 players who played more than 1,000 minutes, only Samuel Kalu, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar attempted more dribbles on a 90 base last season than his 9.96 average.
With a total of five combined goals or assists, he has yet to get the same kind of exit in terms of goal contributions as Mane, but it will certainly happen and a good performance at this summer’s tournament could indicate that he is. is now ready to finally make the move to Anfield.
