Mane still the main man for former Red Sinama Pongolle
Former Liverpool player Florent Sinama Pongolle is loving Luis Diaz’s start to his career at Anfield but believes Sadio Mane is the standout player in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Diaz provided the cross for Mane to bring home the Reds’ winning goal against Aston Villa on Tuesday night, which keeps their Premier League title hopes alive.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes when they launched their 5-a-side bet on the FA Cup final, Sinama Pongolle said: “Luis Diaz has had a fantastic start to his career at Liverpool; what a player…he is a machine! I love his spirit, I love his mentality, but it’s hard to say he was their player of the season.
“I would say that title has to go to Sadio Mane. He has had such an impact this year, especially when used in a more central role. He won the Africa Cup of Nations for his country for the first times in his career, but at club level he’s done an incredible job in a number of different positions that his manager has asked for, he’s scored in some important games – I just think he’s had more of an impact than , say, Mo Salah – who had also been brilliant, for his credit.
“From what I’ve seen on the pitch, I would choose Sadio as Liverpool’s player of the season.”
