Carragher backs Salah to sign new Liverpool contract
Jamie Carragher has backed Mohamed Salah to sign a new long-term contract with Liverpool in the near future.
Salah has two more years on an extension he signed in the summer of 2018 and was identified earlier this year as one of the many key men the club wanted to talk to about new terms in the summer.
Player retention has been a key theme this summer with deals already made for Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool want to reward Salah for his form during his time at Anfield and any new tenure is likely to make him the highest paid player in club history as a salary increase will see him surpass £ 200,000 per week that it is. currently said to win.
And speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said:
âIt’s not just about Jordan Henderson today, it’s about the group of players who have signed long-term contracts.
âI think Liverpool have some of the best players in the world, with Alisson signing a six-year contract and Virgil van Djik. I think Mohamed Salah will be the next to sign.
âIn years gone by, certainly when I was at the club, if we had players of this quality, they would go to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
âWe’ve lost so many players over the years, but the club this year hasn’t spent a lot on the transfer market.
âWe brought in Konate for £ 36million, and we certainly got that back from the sales.
âI think the money and the expenses of this preseason were going to be spent on new contracts, so these players could stay at Liverpool for the rest of their careers.
“Jordan is next and follows Andy Robertson, Fabinho too and I expect Salah to do that.”
