Jordan Henderson on Brentford lessons, Salah’s 100 league goals and more

Jordan Henderson admitted there was “a lot of room for improvement” after Liverpool had to settle for a point after a 3-3 reverse draw at Brentford.

The Reds were down in the first half of the Premier League game and then found themselves ahead thanks to a header from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah’s 100th top goal for the club.

After the Bees equalized, Curtis Jones’ thud from outside the box put his team back in the lead with a slight deflection, only for Yoane Wissa to equalize again and force a share of the booty.

After the game, Henderson spoke about the key moments of the game in an interview with Sky Sports. Read the captain’s verdict in full below …

About how the game felt involved in …

It was an intense game, we knew that. We knew it was a tough place to come. It’s a very intense team, they have shown that they are capable of playing at this level so far. So we knew it would be difficult to come here; the crowd, it was a great atmosphere. And they made it difficult for us, so you have to give them credit. But on our side, we will be disappointed. Taking the lead twice and not being able to see the game end is disappointing on our end, but we have to try to take the positive and move on.

Missed opportunities being a key factor …

Yes, I think at 2-1 we had a big chance or two to finish the game; I think if it’s going 3-1 it’s a whole different game. But when you only have one goal, it still gives them some hope, they get a free kick or a long ball in the box, and they’ve managed to tie it. It’s football sometimes, we’re very disappointed with the result at the end, but again like I said you have to give Brentford credit, I think they did well today.

Whether Liverpool expected Brentford’s level of intensity …

Yes. Look, we’re an intense team too – we like really intense games. But I think there is a lot of room for improvement on our part today, sometimes I thought it could be a lot better. But we stayed in the game from the start, the first half was not great. Came out in the second half and performed better, [we] also controlled it a little better. But, sadly, he just couldn’t hang on to victory.

On Jones’ goal …

It was a fantastic goal from Curtis. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to hang in there to be the winner.

Whether it was a missed opportunity after results elsewhere on Saturday …

Well, it was just a missed opportunity to get three points, that’s all we always want to try to achieve, we don’t really watch the league every game. We just want to win as many games as possible. We know the Premier League is tough. Coming here is difficult. But today I felt like if we had used our experience a little better, we should have taken all three points.

On Salah’s 100th league goal for the club …

Amazing moment. He’s been amazing since joining the club. He’s a fantastic boy, he works really hard off the training ground, recovers well, lives his life the right way to be ready for every game to play every game. He’s getting his awards for that, he’s been phenomenal. And I hope he can continue to do that for us this season and beyond.
