Since the appointment of Pep Guardiola in 2016, Manchester City have become one of the most dominant forces in Europe.

Winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four Carabao Cups, the Sky Blues’ incredible trophy cabinet is a glimpse into why they are considered one of the greatest club teams of the modern era .

However, it is widely believed that for City to cement their iconic status, a Champions League trophy would go a long way to capping the Guardiola era as unprecedented.

The Premier League champions tasted defeat in their first-ever final in the competition at the hands of Chelsea last season, Phil Foden discussed his side’s aspirations to eventually win the Champions League.

“It’s the one we dream of, the one we want. But even winning the Premier League is so important, how many times we’ve done it in the last two years, and obviously all the cups we’ve won as well.

“It would be really very special if we could get the Champions League, but if not, I still believe that we have been so successful in recent years,” he revealed in an interview with Soccer AM.

Kevin De Bruyne also recently echoed the England international’s thoughts by saying that while he too has his eyes on winning Europe’s elite competition, he still views City’s resounding success over the years as incredible. .

With the Blues drawn to face Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals, a massive test awaits Guardiola’s side, as they are set to face seasoned European heavyweights.

However, overcoming the mental block of reaching the Champions League final last season may be the experience this City side sorely needed to go further this season.

Foden is in great form this season. The 21-year-old mostly operated as the false nine and exhibited such mature qualities for such a young player.

Most recently, the midfielder scored a fantastic goal to secure City’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Southampton. Cutting to his left foot, Foden expertly picked the top corner.
