DT Mekhi Wingo player profile in 2022
As the 2022 football season approaches, LSU Wire will review every player on the Tigers’ roster.
During pre-season, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.
Kelly made the transfer portal a priority upon arriving at Baton Rouge, and the Tigers have used it extensively this offseason to shore up the roster, especially on defense. One of the best additions was Mekhi Wingo, a defensive tackle transfer from Missouri who brings SEC experience to the table.

Depth Chart Preview
Originally a three-star freshman out of DeSmet High School in St. Louis, Wingo ranked outside the national top 600 when he signed with the Missouri Tigers in the state.
He made a major impact in his only season at Mizzou as a true freshman. He appeared in 11 games and had 21 tackles (two for loss) with one sack, one pass deflection and one interception. He recorded very solid PFF ratings, especially against the run and in rushing passing.
He entered the transfer portal after his proper first season and landed with the Tigers, where he is expected to provide key depth along the inside of the defensive line this fall. Maason Smith and Jaquelin Roy are likely the two starters, but Wingo and Jacobian Guillory should be the next inside players.
As Wingo progresses in his career, he should eventually become a starter.
