Diogo Jota: It’s a historic victory, but we will stay anchored

Diogo Jota really enjoyed playing his part in a ‘historic’ 5-0 victory over Manchester United, but vowed that the Liverpool players would remain anchored in their quest for the Premier League title.
The Portuguese striker scored the Reds’ second of the afternoon at Old Trafford on Sunday, adding to Naby Keita’s opener and preceding a clinical treble from Mohamed Salah.
âIt’s historic but we as players cannot think over our heads. I think it’s important that we keep our feet on the ground. It’s just [another] three points, there is a long way to go, âJota told Liverpoolfc.com.

Diogo, what a day! I guess that’s the kind of thing you dreamed about last night?
It’s hard to dream [about such a win], which is a good thing, to be honest. We still expect a close game, at least in terms of the result, but I think we were exceptional today, especially until 2-0. In the first 15 minutes we were almost perfect. After that we conceded a bit of counterattacking and started losing the ball, but in the end it was a historic result that fans will remember for a moment.
What clicked so well in this incredible first half?
Sometimes things just happen naturally. I think we were of course on our toes, everyone was looking for space and I think in the end with the two goals to come that helps too. We were very dangerous and we had a fantastic game today.

Everyone is talking about Salah right now. What can you say about his form and the impact he has on this team?
Massive! I sure think the way the team is playing right now helps a finisher like him. It’s one of those moments where every time he touches the ball, he seems to end up in the back of the net! It’s amazing for us and I hope it can continue for a while.
It was great to see the desire for perfection in the team too, you were desperate to keep that clean sheet towards the end of the matchâ¦
Yeah, I think a clean sheet is always important because if you do that it allows you to score a goal and win the game. I think that’s why we have to fight because with the quality that we have at the front, if we keep this blank sheet [then] I’m pretty sure we’ll win the game.
