Chelsea Champions League winner Kai Havertz looks forward to facing Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James at Wembley when Germany face England in the round of 16 of Euro 2020
Chelsea’s Champions League winner Kai Havertz is looking forward to facing England in what will be a “special game” for the youngster after his debut Premier League season.
Havertz is one of three players from the German squad to face England on Tuesday, with Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger also likely to feature.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, the 22-year-old spoke about his emotions at playing at Wembley.
“Of course it’s a special game for me,” he said.
The forward continued: “I’ve played Wembley at one point or another. It’s a big game for all of us and we will do our best to win.
Asked about the potential of a penalty shootout, the German said: “Of course you have to be prepared and after training you sometimes shoot a penalty or two.
“But the 120 minutes before that is much more important and we will try to win the game before that. If that happened, I would definitely take a penalty. “
Havertz was Germany’s most outstanding player at the European Championship, scoring two goals in three games as his morale peaked after the Champions League victory.
These performances led Havertz to be named favorite to win the title of young player of the tournament at Euro 2020.
Havertz’s Germany will face England’s Mason Mount, Reece James and Ben Chilwell on Tuesday night.
