‘Brilliant date’ – Liverpool fans tell Everton why they should be happy with Rafa Benitez
Liverpool fans have reacted online to the news that Rafa Benitez is set to become Everton’s new manager.
Benitez is beloved by Liverpool fans after leading the club to their fifth European Cup with a miraculous comeback victory over AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005.
The Spaniard, who arrived from Valencia in 2004, then led the club to FA Cup victory in 2006, as well as another Champions League final in 2007.
Benitez also led the Reds to second in the Premier League in 2009 and still lives in Wirral with his family.
And as ECHO revealed on Wednesday night, the Kop icon is set to become Everton’s new manager.
ECHO understands the Spaniard is set to be named Blues boss after overtaking Nuno Espirito Santo in pole position for the role.
And here’s how Reds fans reacted to the news on Twitter.
Since leaving Liverpool 11 years ago, Benitez has managed Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid and Newcastle.
The 61-year-old has been out of work since leaving Dalian Professional in China earlier this year and has been keen to return to senior management.
âI moved to China because there were no top teams here, so I had to keep competing and doing my job,â he said last month.
“But for now, I really want to stay in England, in Liverpool. I watch all Premier League games and sometimes Championship games so that I am always ready.
“The priority is England, the Premier League, my family is here and I love the style of football here. I will try to be ready here.
“I watch Serie A because it’s a good championship for me but there, in France, Germany, Portugal, I don’t see too many options in these countries to have a project where we can develop players and make the team more competitive. “
