The state reported the first case of Omicron on Wednesday, after genome sequencing of a sample of a 47-year-old man who arrived here from Nigeria revealed he was infected with the new strain. Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said five other people had been detected with a drop in the S gene, raising suspicion of infection with the Omicron variant.
